Obama proposes $2 billion plan to replace fossil fuel

President-obama-s-first-google-hangout-how-d-he-do--acfb46e076

A few weeks ago, the White House began to urge Congress to divert $2 billion from gas and oil leases towards “groundbreaking” environmental technology over the next 10 years. Whilst Obama has encountered much resistance from Republicans, the “Energy Security Trust” money will come from an increase in drilling revenue from leasing public lands and waters over the next decade. He stressed that this was not a new form of taxation.

To promote this new funding, Obama is scheduled to tour the Argonne National Laboratory in Chicago, a lab that has been at the forefront of developing batteries for electric cars. This was one aspect of new “groundbreaking” technology that Obama was particularly interested in.

With the minority of the US population being concerned with eco-needs, this is a brave move by the President. To any US citizens reading this, what is your take on the matter?

Royal Dutch Airlines launches weekly flights that use biofuel made from cooking oil

Whilst biofuels have long been embraced by the military for several decades now, we are beginning to see their incorporation into the commercial world. Thanks to a joint effort, Royal Dutch Airlines will now be making weekly flights between New York and Amsterdam that are powered by this new biofuel. KLM managing director, Camiel Eurings said,

“I am proud that KLM is once again demonstrating its leading role in developing sustainable biofuel.”

The flights began on March 8th, 2013. This isn’t the first time that KLM have managed something like this though. In June of 2012, they recorded their longest ever biofuel flight, from Amsterdam to Rio de Janeiro. The question remains, would you feel comfortable travelling on a plane that is powered by cooking oil!

15 year old starts petition to stop British Government from cutting environmental education

Screen Shot 2013-03-28 at 11.20.32

Michael Gove, Britain’s Secretary of State for Education, has decided to remove climate change education from the curriculum of students under the age of 14. Whilst the adults continue to argue over what must be done and whether environmental problems exist at all, Esha Marwaha has decided to take the matter into her own hands with a petition rallying to keep climate education in the curriculum. The petition already has 24,000 votes and counting. Esha said,

Climate change  is the most pressing and threatening issue to modern day society. Through lack of understanding from     generations before us, we are having to fix it. And how can we do this without education?”

The petition only need 984 signatures so do your part and sign it, now!

Video Game News : : Black Ops Two, Everywhere.

Black Ops 2 beats modern Warfare 3 sales

Wheelchair-Bound California Man Shot While Waiting in Line for "Call of Duty: Black Ops 2"

Black Ops 2 sold 7.2 million copies in 24 hours. Modern Warfare 3 reached a more modest figure of 6.5 million. Considering that $775 million was made in revenue during the first 5 days after MW3’s release, we can safely assume Black Ops 2 will surpass that.
Amazon recently stated that Black Ops 2 was the most pre-ordered game the site ever had……ok, OK, we get it Ed, this game is a big deal….still not convinced?
1 in 4 Black Ops 2 players called in sick on the release date. In a survey of 10,000 on ign.com, 1 in 4 players claimed they would skip work or school in order to get an entire days (proper) work done.

Man shot in queue during midnight launch

At around 1 am during the biggest midnight release of any video game, ever, a man was shot. He was a 20 year old male in a wheelchair. This occurred in Korea-town, California, in the middle of hundreds of people. The most shocking thing? They still haven’t caught the suspect….even though there must have been more eye-witnesses than you can kill with your new attack dogs score-streak. Supposedly, police are merely waiting for someone to come forward with any evidence. The 20 year old was shot in his abdomen and is recovering.
It’s lunatics like this that give video games a bad name. If you’re interested in the whole “violence in video games” topic, I will shamelessly self promote an old blog I wrote that goes into heavy detail on this subject.

Black Ops 2 PC surprise

The PC version was released on two discs, one online, one offline. Turns out that when customers went to install the second disc, they were actually installing Mass Effect Two. Each disc was correctly manufactured to look like the correct Black Ops disc….however, instead of loading the multiplayer, they all received a Mass Effect Two error. The funniest part? EA and Activision are massive competitors. This will be as close as they get to releasing a game together for the rest of the world……have we found our silver lining? World peace amongst video game companies?! OMG!

(Epic side note) Assassin’s Creed/Splinter Cell movies move closer to a release date"Splinter Cell" Movie One Step Closer to Being a Real Thing, Tom Hardy to Star as Sam FisherI wrote about the possibility of these two films being produced during the early summertime. Never in a million years did I think these movies would be made. Ubisoft Chief Sales and Marketing Officer Geoffroy Sardin announced that he hoped the Assassin’s Creed movie (starring Michael Fassbender) will hopefully be in theatres by the end of 2013! Ubisoft must have high hopes for the film industry considering Bane (Batman villain, Tom Hardy) has agreed to play the role of Sam Fisher in the Splinter Cell movie.
What’s your view on video game films? I doubt any of you would refuse a Zelda OOT movie? Goodness, I’ve attempted a joke there but now can only dream of what that would be like…..until then I’ll take solace with my Zelda text tone.

Video Game News! 17th June 2012 – Tony Hawk, Sam Fisher, George Clooney.

1) Tony Hawk is producing the next Call of Duty.

Creator of the successful Tony Hawk and Guitar Hero games, Neversoft, are now working on the next Call of Duty title. Considering that Treyarch are hard at work with Black Ops 2, there is no information regarding what Neversoft have in mind for a future Call of Duty shooter.
There is a chance it could be the PS Vita release, Call of Duty, Black Ops: Decalssified. But why would we just be hearing about their involvement with the game scheduled to be released at the end of this year.

2)
Gold Dualshock controller available for Playstation 3.

In celebration of the Olympics (supposedly), Sony is releasing a special gold dualshock controller. It will be available in Europe sometime this month. The US will have to wait a few months until October to get their hands on this pointless but sexy controller.

3) Splinter Cell, the movie.

Assuming that a deal can be made with a film company and Ubisoft, we could be treated to Sam Fisher on the big screen. Ubisoft require to have control over the storyline so that the series remains faithful to the games. Paramount Pictures have worked with Tom Clancy before so seem most obvious to land the deal. I don’t know about you, but I would be thrilled with a Splinter Cell movie.  I know it seems insane, but wouldn’t George Clooney make a great Sam Fisher? As long as the emotionless Daniel Craig fails to play the part, we should be ok.

4) XBOX 720 details surface.

According to a 56 page document uploaded to scribd.com (that has now been brought down due to legal reasons), the next Xbox will be released in 2013, for $299 and will feature the Kinect 2 with special AR glasses. The document’s authenticity has not been verified and many gaming blogs have reached out to Microsoft for verification but no response has been given by Microsoft, unsurprisingly. The system will operate on six to eight ARM/Intel x86 cores running at 2Ghz with 4GB of memory.
There are many more details littered all over the web, so if you seek more knowledge I suggest you hit up Google search.
